We check out a new (old) park in DC

Meridian Hill Park.
On one of our many “let’s wander around DC” days in May, we made our way to Meridian Hill Park on 16th just up from U Street.  The place is quite an architectural monument with elaborate stone walls, plazas, stairways, walkways, waterways, fairways (lawns) and scenic view-ways from where you can see a long ways.  A perfectly stepped waterfall babbles down the center of it all, looking like a big fishless fish ladder.  Civil rights leaders organized marches at the park in the 1960s.  The park is also famous for the drumming circles that have occurred here every Sunday for nearly 50 years.  Indeed, a small band of drummers entertained us while we downed our sandwiches—made us want to run out and buy a couple of Djembes.
