The great curving spires of the Air Force Memorial are
impressive from afar, and basically awesome up close—well worth a visit. Kudos to the minds that thought this thing up
and to those who built it (completed in 2006).
Looking up the dizzying, 270-foot high curved blades, I noticed the evenly
spaced “bolt hangers” (to borrow a rock-climbing term) leading up each
one. I determined these must be for
maintaining the monument, both to keep it tidy and bright and to periodically
replace the aircraft warning lights at the top.
I want that job.
