Hannegan Peak (WA)

Back in Bellingham in early August 2012, I was ready to enjoy an actual, real-life vacation, as opposed to a mostly working vacation, which inevitably entailed some work on the old homestead.  At least it felt like a vacation.  The fabulous weather demanded a couple of forays to the North Cascades and it seemed Hannegan Peak might be a good choice, especially if there were any wildflowers left.  As it turned out, the wildflowers were at their peak, exploding with color.  And the day was warm, sunny and bug-free!  Three of us made a full day of it, covering a bit over ten miles total, including a brief wander along the ridge toward Granite Mountain.  The views back to Ruth Mountain, Mount Sefrit and multiple, ragged horizons were as amazing as ever.  Here’s a taste:
