Rock Creek Park, DC

Kris cycling through Rock Creek Park.
This urban mega-park is a major greenway system running through DC, a big semi-wild place with extensive trails, the National Zoo, and endless woods to wander around in.  The creek is nice too and roars like crazy during those summer thunderstorms.  It’s actually a national park and an arm of it begins a block from our apartment.  Trails are generally well linked around here.  Thus I can walk out the door and stay on a trail all the way to the Appalachian Trail, which in turn would take me to Maine or Georgia.  One of the main drives through the park is closed on the weekend when the park becomes a bicycling mecca.  We’ve ridden it several times, often combined with other bike trails in the city that together offer some pretty broad choices on loops and rambles.

Kris coming off the trail--no need to risk this tunnel.
